Waterspout hits Hope Town Harbour

9:15 this morning a waterspout touched down in HT Harbour, reportedly flipping one boat over. Scary! We had a ring side seat here at Sea Horse.

Wow!
Thanks for taking the photos - that would have been frightening wondering where it might touch down!!

I am glad no one was hurt, and I hope the boat will be okay. Or is that the reason for your post on salt water and engines? Hmmm...

I hope never to see one up close and personal!

Had one make landfall here on Ocracoke years ago and it totally blew apart a house that was on the water.Although not as powerfull as a tornado they can pack a punch.Funny thing but in the past tfifteen or so years we have not had the really strong thunderstorms that we used to have.

Us neither Island Daze. Thunderstorms use to be so brutal up here but we have not had anything like that in many years (now that I opened my big mouth....watch!) Even the winters when the bay use to freeze up and cars and pickup trucks would drive by in front of our house....was quite comical. The marine police did not know whose (???) jurisdiction it was!). Funny.

Funny Angie we are about to be hit by a small but intense thunderstorm.

See, we spoke too soon. When we were down here in the early seventies, I was on the phone with a friend and I said, I am going to hang up because they say if lightning hits the phone you go with it and she called me a "kook!" Well, I barely made it off the phone, lightning hit, blew out ceilings up and downstairs, phone lines and even our well and when we got settled, I called her back and said "this is the kook, we just got hit by lightning!" So, now you know why I fear sharks! (they say you are liable to get hit by lightning than bitten by a shark!).

Captain Plug. Great Photos. That was a pretty strong storm Monday morning too. Wasn't sure we were going to get out.

Our trips with you were the highlight of our vacation. Thanks.

Wow, and oh my goodness papanasty!!
That was amazing footage - thanks!

I know one thing - I will NOT be chasing tornadoes when I get there to Hope Town!! I think I'd hide. No, I know I'd hide.

Hi to Dewey, Erika and Jolie!

I have a picture of the one that hit us at Fisher's Bay Great Guana in June 2006 if I can figure how to size it. Once you have been hit once there is no mistaking the feeling the second tiime whether or not you see it. I understand it flipped one boat in Hopetown and lifted two other out of the water and sat them back down.

I heard it was a small boat with a lighthouse tender driving it. He was OK.

It was Harold's boat (Cat's Paw boat rentals) he got out of the boat in time but it flipped the whaler and took everything that was loose from one of his other boats.

Sat on the porch at Sweetings Landing and watched the whole thing. It came down from the sky from the Atlantic side and landed right past Harbour's Edge. Made its way through open water, rattled a couple boats (a yacht and a yellow cat), flipped the small boats and went into the docks left of the lighthouse marina before dissappearing as quick as it showed up.
